Oxygen Tent/ MD 702 is the latest outlet for the creative expression of Jeff Rieter, who is also the bassist and founding member of Baghouse, Athens, GA (www.baghousemusic.com).

Born in 1970, Jeff was attracted to electronic music as a child and aspired to play synthesizers while being otherwise coerced into the acoustic piano by his parents. Many years later he discovered electric stringed instruments and has played bass for the last twelve years.

Since 1997 Jeff has devoted much of his time to the Athens, GA based group Baghouse-- an experimental collective that explores sounds ranging from early 70's Miles Davis inspired acid funk to current electronic trends while maintaining an organic basis. With Baghouse, he performed at NXNE in Canada in 1999, NXNW in Oregon in 1999 and 2000 and SXSW in Texas in 2000, as well as holding residency at the Knitting Factory in NYC every Friday in June 2001. It was after working with guitarist Jeff McLeod ( www.soundandchaos.com) for much of 2000 that Rieter was inspired to pursue solo expression.

Late in 2000 Jeff initiated two solo projects, Oxygen Tent and Transambient Bass, to express some of the experimental ideas that been developing during the preceding months. The original concept ot Oxygen Tent was to create fully improvised abstract bass centric noisescapes using only an electric bass and a few select effects. The concept has since expanded and contracted, at times including a collaboration with Athens based electronic drummer and hand percussionist, Brian 'Bronkar' Lee. The duo explored the possibilities of live improvised house grooves, two step and drum n bass. Some of these endeavors were recorded and are available for download at www.mp3.com/oxygen_tent.

Oxygen Tent/ MD 702 represents the latest expansion of the Oxygen Tent vision. Incorporating beats composed with software tools, realtime effects processing, samplers, and electric bass Oxygen Tent/ MD 702 creates a live - remix presentation. The resulting sound derives melodic content from effected drum tracks as much as processed electric bass and has been compared to the work of Genesis P.Orridge and Panacea among others. A performance in early November 2001 was recorded resulting in a seven track - 63 minute demo/EP slated for future release by Hefe Records.
